• his mother was an undocumented immigrant though so for a lot of reasons jesse has always had like, nascent inchoate disrespect for the legitimacy of state-delineated boundaries
  
• which later in life helps him to rationalise a lot of the seedy geopolitical work he does in blackwatch

• honestly jesse is v much a ronin archetype, like all those movies with speeches that are just like YOU'RE JUST A DOG MEANT TO SERVE A MASTER absolutely pertain to him!! jesse talks a big game but he has kind of an awkward relationship with the entire concept of being his own man; the decision to leave blackwatch was like, the first really independent choice he ever made, and it hollowed him out
